The M²OLIE Research Campus at CURAC 2025 in Heidelberg

30.09.2025

The annual conference of the German Society for Computer- and Robot-Assisted Surgery (CURAC) is a central forum for medical technology, robotics, and digital innovations in surgery. At this year’s edition, held from September 18 to 20, 2025, in Heidelberg, the M²OLIE Research Campus was prominently represented with its own session.

Under the title “Robot use in clinical processes using the example of the BMBF Research Campus M²OLIE,” experts from Mannheim presented the latest findings from research and development. Dr. Hannah Krause (UMM) introduced the M²OLIE process, which maps the entire journey from admission to therapy in a continuous, digitized workflow. This was followed by presentations on image-guided interventions (Prof. Nils Rathmann, UMM), the digital tumor board as a decision-making aid (Dr. Anna Simeonova-Chergou, UMM), and methods for efficient control of clinical processes (Joel Lehmann, TH Mannheim). There was a particular focus on the use of robotics and automation: Prof. Dr. Frank Zöllner (MIiSM, Heidelberg University) showed how imaging makes the planning of robotic procedures more precise, while Dr. Marius Siegfarth (MIiSM, Heidelberg University) presented the automation of robot-assisted procedures. The session was very well received and impressively demonstrated how M²OLIE is gradually transferring the visionary closed-loop process – from patient admission to discharge – into clinical practice, thereby setting new standards for fast, precise, and patient-centered cancer treatment.
