THE RIGHT INFRASTRUCTURE IS LIKE A JIGSAW PUZZLE.

ALL THE PIECES HAVE TO BE THERE.

The M²OLIE Forschungscampus benefits not only from the access to the established infrastructure at the campus of the University Medical Centre Mannheim, but also from the new, state of the art research facilities that have been installed on campus during the preliminary phase of M²OLIE.

The Experimental Intervention environment

The centerpiece of the Research Campus is the experimental intervention room in the center for medical technology start-ups and competencies, CUBEX⁴¹. The intervention room is equipped with an Artis zeego® system (Siemens Healthcare) as the central component for inline imaging in an experimental research environment. Further components of this experimental platform are the robotic assistance system guidoo (BEC GmbH) for automated biopsy removal and brachytherapy, which is based on a lightweight robot LBR med (KUKA Deutschland GmbH), and the hybrid operating table (MAQUET GmbH). In this innovative technical environment, technical developments can be evaluated directly by clinical users. In addition, further Artis zeego® systems are located in parallel designed clinical intervention rooms on the premises of the University Medical Center Mannheim, so that a transfer of research results into practice is significantly simplified.

SOMATOM Force

The new Computed Tomography (CT) SOMATOM Force from Siemens Healthcare was unveiled to the world for the first time on 14 November, 2013, at the University hospital in Mannheim (UMM). The third generation of dual-source computed tomography (CT scanner with two radiation tubes and detectors) is much faster and more accurate in terms of diagnosis in clinical use at a greatly reduced radiation dose.

  • First worldwide installation 09/2013
  • Dual source of third generation
  • Tube A: Up to 150 kV voltage with Sn filter
  • Tube B: Up to 150 kV voltage with Sn filter, 35 cm FoV
  • 6 cm detector width
  • 2 x 192 detector rows
  • Up to 0.25 s rotation time, 63 ms time resolution
  • Up to 80 cm/s table feed (pitch = 3.4)
  • ECG triggering
  • 80 cm 4D imaging

CUBEX⁴¹

CUBEX⁴¹ lives. It is an organisation with clearly structured areas and units. They have everything they need for their vitality. Furthermore, the proximity of the areas to each other allows for a rapid and efficient exchange of information. Or as we now say in Germany: Networking. This includes the special location of CUBEX⁴¹ on the campus of the University Medical Centre in Mannheim which has pedestrian access to medical research and patient care, as well as the Institute for Medical Technology of the Mannheim Medical Faculty and the Mannheim University of Applied Sciences. Start-ups and SMEs in the field of medical technology will especially benefit from the proximity to the Fraunhofer PAMB, which is also housed in CUBEX⁴¹, and thus also to the M²OLIE joint project. This allows information and ideas to be exchanged with established experts.
