IMPRESSIONS 4th IMAGE-GUIDED INTERVENTIONS CONFERENCE

12.11.2019

On 4th and 5th November 2019 the fourth “Image-Guided Interventions Conference (IGIC)” of the two Research Campi M²OLIE and STIMULATE was hosted in Mannheim. This year the conference was organized by M²OLIE. About 100 participants from science, medicine and engineering attended the event with this year’s main topic “Digitalization in Medicine”.

The main topic is of outstanding importance for image-guided, robot-assisted interventions, which are the research focus of both Research Campi. At both sites, new approaches are being developed to tackle the increasing challenge of storing, evaluating and providing a wide range of data generated in diagnostics and therapy during a patient’s stay in the hospital. Professor Jacques Marescaux, President and Founder of the Institut de Recherche contre le Cancer de l’Appareil Digestif (IRCAD), Strasbourg, and member of the Scientific Advisory Board at the M²OLIE Research Campus, opened the conference with his plenary talk on imaging, robotics and artificial intelligence. Further talks by internationally renowned experts on five topics followed. Young scientists contributed oral presentations to each of the five sessions and presented their latest results in two poster sessions. Furthermore, the panel discussion examined the topic “Digital Physician – from therapy decision to digital aftercare” from different perspectives. For the first time this year, start-up companies from the Rhine-Neckar metropolitan region were also actively involved and presented their innovations at the conference. Over the years, the joint conference “Image Guided Interventions” by M²OLIE and STIMULATE has developed into an established and important communication format for both Research Campi. With its international orientation, the conference promotes the professional exchange not only among each other, but also beyond the borders of the Research Campi.
